ígnia (2025)
is a piece for gamelan gong kebyar and electronics. It stems from an exploration of the sound of the gamelan through the metaphor of glowing materials and the energy that emerges from them. The title also refers to the name of the group Gamelan Barasvara (bara = embers and svara = voice in Balinese), to whom the piece is dedicated.

Premiered by Gamelan Barasvara (gamelan gong kebyar and electronics), A.A.B.G. Krishna Putra Sutedja (kendang) and A.A.B. Harjunanthara (dance) at L’Auditori de Barcelona. This work received a Barcelona Crea 2024 grant.

Ripples (2024/25)
is a piece for cello and live electronics. Ripples unfolds on the metaphor of a lucid dream in its fragmentary yet self-conscious narrative. The sonic actions by the cellist bring the electronics into play, and the work develops in an improvisatory manner through the performer’s reactions to the resulting effects.

Premiered by Anna Grenzner on January 2025 at KULTUM, Graz.

Concordances II (2024)
is a piece for piano, accordion and electronics. It is part of an ongoing series of pieces that explore the integration of field recordings and environmental sounds into the musical discourse focusing on the control of the degrees of mimesis with instrumental sounds. It investigates the potential of suggesting symbolic relationships to objects, scenes, actions, by means of sounds and their unfolding through musical time.

Premiered by Ana Ostojic (piano) and Maurizio de Luca (accordion) on October 2024 at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Graz (KUG).
Composition and electronics: Gerard Erruz

Begegnungen (2024)
is a work for solo violin and live electronics sound installation. It is the result of a collaboration between the violinist Judith Fliedl and the composer Gerard Erruz to create a piece that enables a shared experience between the performer and the audience. This connection is build upon different aspects: the specific stage design dilutes the usual gap between performer and audience. It enables the possibility of physical closeness and one-to-one dialogues between the violin performer and individual audience members. Furthermore, the electronics consist of a series of soundscapes that feature field recordings, real-world sounds and mimesis of the sounds with instrumental means. These soundscapes suggest scenes and narratives that relate to the character of the violin part and enhance the sense of a shared experience between the performer and the audience.

Commisioned by Judith Fliedl as part of her artistic research on new concert possibilities with a focus on contemporary solo violin literature.

Ongoing performances.

Axis (2024)
is a multidisciplinary piece created with the choreographer Jiaji Cheng. Movement and sound interrelate during the performance in several ways: two musicians (trumpet and bass clarinet) move on stage alongside the solo dancer; the dancer’s and the musicians’ sounds are processed live as part of the electronics; a half-dome multichannel audio system distributes the electronic live sounds around the audience.
In this investigation, we start from the “circle” and let it intervene in the creation from the dimensions of sound and movement. Through intertwining with the circle, we connect reality and imagination, attempting to explore our deep understanding of ourselves and the world. The ideas of axis and circular motion have lead the creative process of the piece from multiple perspectives: their inscription in the movements on stage, their metaphorical unfolding in the sound world, and their function as a link between these two expressions, which develop jointly throughout the work. Different perspectives of a single circular motion are explored, ranging from the apparent stasis at the axial centre to the frantic momentum of the farthest regions, as a way of mapping our own ways of engaging with the perceptions of reality.

Premiered at MUMUTH’s György-Ligeti-Saal on May 2024 within the abo@MUMUTH concert series.
